There’s so many places we’ll never go/so many people we’ll never know/so many feelings we’ll never show/we’ll ascertain when it’s over/I’ll see you lying next to me/the most beautiful thing I could ever see/might be different when we scream/but in the end it’s just you and me/’cause I don’t want to wake you up/ I’ll leave the job to the morning sun/ I don’t want to wake you up/ I want to see you turn around in the short distance/getting in from a freezing night/it’s been a while since it was so bright/ winter moonshine lights our room/ in the glass I can see you/ I don’t want to wake you up/ I’ll leave the job to the morning sun/ I don’t want to wake you up/ I wan to see you turn around in the short distance/so many books we’ll never read/so many movements we’ll never lead/ too many bad things we’ll never quit/we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it

Last Shift 02:35
He started his shift at 11/ it was a shift all night/ turned down the outside lights/ checked everything alright/ cash in the counter/ last cars filled their tanks/ and there was a feeling/ a feeling of nothing/ was it a dark curse or just faith?/ the world seemed too big in its emptiness/ tail lights on/ last ones drive away/ he gets his act ready/ ready for the show/ rope on a beam/ stands on a chair/ he thinks of nothing/ and nothing lasts forever/ was it a dark curse or just faith?/ the world seemed too big in its emptiness/ he left no note or words to her/everything was clear/ it just got worse/ they came in the morning/ found him hanging cold/ cops filled their report/ and that was all/ / was it a dark curse or just faith?/ the world seemed too big in its emptiness

It’s just been a day/ since she went away/ that makes it a night/ no one said goodbye/ so I’ll give it a go/ and put miles in between/ I’m sorry to say/ this ain’t but a dream/ and outside there’s only a d flat dog barking/ and inside the bottle won’t let me come out/ the meaning of life was revealed to me/ so easy to get/ so hard to resist/ I could hear a roar the morning you left/ a second that froze/ answers came and went/ and outside there’s only a d flat dog barking/ and inside the bottle won’t let me come out/ I feel so alive/ so full with desire/ I’ll sink in the tide that sets off this fire/ and outside there’s only a d flat dog barking/ and inside the bottle won’t let me come out

You owe me 38 bucks you don’t owe me more than that just a return Greyhound ticket from the city to the town could have made it in a day or two, I just didn’t have the time You owe me 38 bucks I didn’t like what I found Isee the biker dealers at your doorstep chasin’ you around time just sleeps away livin’ in this town Taking rides from heaven to hell, still unable to keep up then real life steps in the way Then it doubles up the price You owe me 38 bucks I guess I won't pick them up honey show me what you got they say, my emotions in the trash stuck stranded in the fields for the love that never was.

Still Around 03:41
I was waiting for you all morning later I just realized/must’ve been the perfect setup/without colors in the sky/in my dreams/ I see what you can’t see/ in my life/ I’ve nothing sorted out/ except the notion that I’m still around for you/ I was reaching for my coffee/your face suddenly came up/through the bright lights from the city/and no shelter from the crowd in my dreams/ I see what you can’t see/ in my life/ I’ve nothing sorted out/ except the notion that I’m still around for you/ all these notions, my emotions/bits and pieces of real life/ it’s 3:30 in the morning/ outside silence woke me up/I could watch you dance forever/hoping you won’t see me howl/ in my dreams/ I see what you can’t see/ in my life/ I’ve nothing sorted out/ except the notion that I’m still around for you

This is a letter to Kris/ I just don’t know where she is / looks like she’ll be out of town this whole week/ people say she won’t be back/ they carry it with them if they have to/ Polaroid shots on an old kitchen table/ was she hiding in the twilight?/ never said she would be back/ in her journey she acquired the habit of treating us right/ fast delivery bad news on TV/ you’re never acquainted but your brother is/ you won’t find it in the books/ there is nothing like yourself hit the ground/ that bird tattoo on your shoulder won’t help you fly away tonight/ she’s upstairs lying in bed, eyes fully open, too many things in her head, in her head/ long time friends Katherine/ drummer husband and heroine/ this is a letter to Kris/ I just don’t know where she is /to know her is to expect anything/ moon through the window winter nights of wine/ filling up my spirit slowin’ me down inside/little baby lives alone who will break her heart of stone/ Try to lead a simple life no one to warm up your nights/ dye your hair, get a bike write or read some Kerouac/ live outside to wipe the pain/ and you’ll be yourself again/ this is a letter to Kris/ I just don’t know where she is

Everybody’s looking for Johnny Supermarket/ left a cloud of dust, few bills in his pocket/ running away was the best thing to do/ California’s waiting, there’s so much for you/ just one day or two Johnny Supermarket/ heard himself talking in the middle of the night/ so sick and tired of those small town lies/ so instead of running back home/ like a freight train past he just drove/ it’s a long long way from home Johnny Supermarket/ there’s a heaven in hell/ that will help will the rest/ time is right for my Johnny Supermarket/ got a picture of his baby in a locket/ dad’s old truck in the Vermont rain/ you never learned to look after yourself/ will you turn yourself in? / is there something in between/ you ain’t got no word/ they shot you like a bird

So good to see you It's been a while It's hard to tell which of the things still burn inside You don't look lonely I've been around Just not entangled in the mood that's all about So far so good I wish you well If you go East I'll make damn sure I head out West Out on the street I smell the city and catch the lights See our old place It's been erased plain from my mind Just let it roll I ain't that mean Took off your shoes to walk barefoot all over me So far so good I wish you well If you go East I'll make damn sure I head out West This same old story is gonna end I'll catch some stars along the way And start anew with somebody else

Open your window pull back your hair/ don’t turn around to see what’s there/ there’s so many things that we can share/ out on the street the sweet rain’s pouring/ it’s nice of you to watch me going/ and everyone seems to enjoy this night/ we both know everything will be alright/ so girl unzip your heart/ and let me offer you a fresh new start/ and who’s a saint and there’s a million things/ to tumble dry and turn around/ so kick that fishbowl of discomfort/ and let the morning sun wash it all away/ so girl unzip your heart/ and let me offer you a fresh new start/ you did it on your own/ it’s time to change the song

Ain't Nobody 04:14

about

After two bands and two decades of songs, '38 Bucks' is the first solo release of singer-songwriter Toni Monserrat, who defines it as ‘a musical self portrait of the troubles and hopes of the 21st century individual’. A bit closer to silvery Americana than to his previous punch-in-the-face rock anthems, in this project electric guitars have been left in the cases to give the whole recording an all-time natural sound, and to let songs breathe and speak by themselves. Stories about happy and unhappy breakups, hope, wicked characters and a lot of irony blend into a work that comes from the heart.
